FISH FRIEND
Looking after your Marine or Freshwater Aquarium or Koi while you are away - and see www.fish-friend.co.uk

Go on holiday or on business secure in the knowledge your precious livestock will still thrive in your absence. Relax as your fish are fed, corals checked, tank tested, skimmer cleaned and RO water topped up. Using relatives or friends bears a risk that they really don’t understand the dangers of overfeeding, heater failure or of a broken top up system!

Experienced Marine and Freshwater Fish Keeper will
• feed the fish corals invertebrates
• top up reservoirs with RO water (can be supplied)
• empty skimmers
• check temperature
• test water parameters weekly or as required
• top up dosers with your pre made solutions e.g. kalkwasser etc.
• also can care for cats and plants too

About me and my Aquariums...

I have a 500 litre and 200 litre marine aquarium Please see photos.

I keep a mix of fish, SPS and soft corals. I have the following fish in my big system, Regal Tang, Naso Tang, Purple Tang, 2 Clownfish, Lemonpeel dwarf angelfish. In my second system, a thriving copperband butterfly, toby puffer, royal gramma, Banggai cardinal and Kole Tang. I also have 2 bubble tip anemones, 2 starfish and a tiger tail sea cucumber.
I produce a product called Bubblescrubber, a low cost algae scrubber, that reduces phosphates and nitrates naturally, without using any additives. It is commercially available and selling well. I also have a 150 litre freshwater system with neon tetras and corydoras catfish and a very ancient plecostomus!

FAQ’s

• How long have you been keeping fish? All my life and marine aquariums the last 5 years
• How often would you suggest visits? I suggest that frequency is probably every other day. With a maximum of 3 days between visits e.g. over weekends. Most fishes do not suffer unduly, if not fed every day, and so for a couple of weeks this regime will do them no harm.
• How I will keep you informed? Text confirmation of visits will be sent as a minimum. I keep visit records and I will text and call in a perceived emergency
• Do you guarantee to attend? Yes. Do you guarantee all my livestock? Sorry this is not possible. I promise I will do my utmost if and when the occupants are in trouble. e.g. I carry spare heaters.
• Are you a biologist? Yes I have a degree from the School of Biology at University of Bath
• Would you suggest looking after new tanks and or livestock? The longer the system has been established then the less is the risk. I don’t recommend you make dramatic changes to fish or regimes prior to going on holiday.
• What happens in an emergency? I suggest I attend and sort it out as much as possible, in discussion with you. I will agree any medication treatments, costs etc. as required.
• Are you happy to look after difficult species? I happily feed Fish Shrimps Crabs Anemones Snails Corals. Unusual aquarium livestock I don’t mind but if it has very special feeding needs (e.g. seahorses nudibranch/sea slugs etc..), this will only be by specific written agreement
• What do you need? clear agreed instructions, and a clean work area and sink and access to RO water to prepare food. And a key!
• Do you do fish houses. Yes, e.g. if more than 2 tanks, I will, but it is subject to extra time likely to be spent @£25 /hr.
• Do you offer remote monitoring? I can monitor your web based system if it is explained to me, or WIFI Web cam supervision can be arranged, useful for monitoring the in tank temperature and general health of the inmates This is achieved using an in tank thermometer and a Wi-Fi connected webcam sited on a stand. Connected in via your own Wi Fi router. This will need an accessible spare mains socket e.g. an extension lead. This is all set up during the prior visits and looked at by me and you daily.
